Our story · Est. 1994

The wine of
the tropics.

Master roaster Michael Gesser turned his love of travel, coffee and the outdoors into Alaska Coffee Roasting Co. in 1994. After nearly ten years living in Kenya — and visiting every coffee-producing country on the planet — his personal relationships with growers give him a hand in every bean, from the farm to your final cup.

For more than two decades we’ve been part of the Fairbanks community: roasting daily in-house, selling beans by the pound and pouring a wide array of specialty drinks. A great place to meet friends, go on a date, or hold a business meeting.

We specialize in single estate varietals. Every step is designed to let each bean present the character singular to its estate.

  1. 01

    Picked by hand

Estate varietals, organic wherever possible — some grow wild. Picked at the peak of ripeness and not a moment before.

  2. 02

    Shipped green

Dried, separated from most of the chaff and sent to Fairbanks still green and unroasted.

  3. 03

    Tasted first

Like fine wine, every batch is cupped before it earns the ACRC seal of approval.

  4. 04

    Air-fluidized roast

Our Sivetz fluid-bed roaster gives precise control of air and bean temperature — and keeps the oils inside the bean, where they belong.

  5. 05

    Suspended animation

Straight from the roaster into the freezer, locking in aromatics until the beans finally meet water.

“A light, bright breath of acidity shimmers inside an amazing bouquet of sweet jasmine and darker, woodier fragrances… all of the range and complexity remains precariously, elegantly in balance.”
